What comes inside a The Sewing Set cross-stitch kit?

Each The Sewing Set kit is a complete starter pack containing premium materials. A single card kit contains 1 piece of 14 count white aida, 1 aperture card in your chosen colour and envelope, 1 John James needle, DMC thread, and the design chart of the pattern. You can also ‘double up’ which gives you 2x aida, 2x card & envelope and 2x DMC thread in the same pack.

Each gift tag kit contains beige aida pieces, blank Kraft gift tags & twine, 1 John James needle, DMC thread, and the design chart of the pattern. You can also ‘double up’ which gives you 2x aida, 2x gift tags & twine and 2x DMC thread in the same pack. The number of pieces of aida and gift tags depends on the kit chosen.

Please note we do not include double-sided tape, which is recommended for making up the kits. However, you can choose other methods such as glue if you prefer, or purchase tape from many sources.

How much are shipping costs?

All orders are sent First Class with Royal Mail. Postage and packaging costs are £2.60 and there is free delivery on orders over £35.

Can I buy pre-sewn cross stitch cards or gift tags?

Yes you can – we simply ask you to fill out a custom order form so that we can advise on production and delivery time if the order is larger than normal!

Can I change or cancel my order?

We usually have very fast turnaround times for processing deliveries. So, if you realise you have made a mistake try to contact us as quickly as possible. If your order has already been dispatched you will need to follow our standard Returns Policy

Do you ship outside of the UK?

The Sewing Set offers UK-wide shipping for all physical cross-stitch kits. While we do not currently ship physical products internationally, our digital PDF cross-stitch patterns are available for instant download worldwide.

What is the difference between The Sewing Set kits and stamped cross-stitch?

The Sewing Set specialises in counted cross-stitch kits, rather than stamped. This means you follow a printed design chart to stitch onto plain aida fabric, allowing for a cleaner finish and a more traditional crafting experience.

Are the cross stitch kits suitable for beginners?

Yes absolutely – we have had lots of great feedback about how simple and easy to follow our designs are. All our kits come with instructions but our Getting Started page will also guide you through the process, and you can also see more tips and tricks in our Journal.

What should I do if I run out of thread or lose a needle?

We always try to include more than enough thread in our kits, but mistakes do happen. If you feel that you haven’t received enough thread to complete your kit please do contact us and we’ll do our best to resolve the issue!

Additionally, if you need to replace your needle, we recommend using a size 24 tapestry needle as these are the sizes we include in our kits.

Our modern designs are popular with both adults and older children (usually 8+). Because we use simple, fun patterns and clear instructions, they are the perfect screen-free activity for anyone looking to learn a new hobby.

Why is cross-stitching considered a good activity for well-being?

Cross-stitching is a form of ‘slow stitching’ or mindful crafting. The repetitive, rhythmic nature of the hobby helps reduce stress, improves focus, and provides a sense of accomplishment, making our kits a popular choice for mental health and relaxation.

Can I send a cross-stitch kit as a gift directly to someone?

Yes! Our kits are designed to be gift-ready and fit through a standard UK letterbox. Many customers choose our kits as unique ‘crafty gifts’ for birthdays or Christmas. If you want to send it directly, just update the delivery address at checkout and put any additional details such as a message to the recipient in the Order Notes.

Are your cross-stitch kits eco-friendly or plastic-free?

Currently, our core materials including DMC cotton threads, cotton Aida fabric, and paper aperture cards, are natural and biodegradable. While we still use some plastic packaging to ensure your kit arrives clean and dry, we are actively working toward fully plastic-free alternatives. Our goal is to provide high-quality, ‘slow-stitch’ hobbies that are as kind to the planet as they are to your mind.

Do your kits fit through a letterbox?

Yes! Our cross-stitch kits are designed to be letterbox-friendly gifts. They are slim enough to be posted through a standard UK letterbox, making them a perfect ‘surprise through the post’ for birthdays, thank-yous, or thinking-of-you gifts.
